Stephen P. Zelnak, Jr. Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer, Martin Marietta Materials
Stephen P. Zelnak, Jr. has served as CEO of Martin Marietta Materials since 1993. In 1997, the Board of Directors elected Mr. Zelnak Chairman of the Board. He is also Chair of the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors.
Mr. Zelnak joined Martin Marietta Corporation in 1981 and has been responsible for the Aggregates operations since 1982. He served as president of the Materials group from 1992 until the formation of Martin Marietta Materials in 1993.
Mr. Zelnak received a bachelor's degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology and master's degrees in Administrative Science and Business Administration from the University of Alabama system.
Active in a number of civic, education and business groups, Mr. Zelnak has served as chairman of the North Carolina Citizens for Business and Industry, North Carolina Community College Foundation, National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association, Peace College Board of Trustees, North Carolina Foundation For Research And Economic Education (NCFREE), North Carolina Aggregates Association and the NC State Physical and Mathematical Sciences Foundation. He currently serves on the Advisory Board of the College of Management and the Board of Visitors at NC State University, the President's Advisory Board at Georgia Tech and the Georgia Tech Foundation Board.
Mr. Zelnak is also a Director of Beazer Homes USA, Inc., a leading national homebuilder.
C. Howard Nye President and Chief Operating Officer
C. Howard (Ward) Nye is President and Chief Operating Officer for Martin Marietta Materials.
Mr. Nye joined the Company in 2006. Prior to joining Martin Marietta Materials, he was employed by Hanson Aggregates North America for nearly 13 years holding various positions of increasing responsibility, most recently Executive Vice President.
Mr. Nye received a bachelor's degree from Duke University and a law degree from Wake Forest University.
In addition to his educational and industry background, Mr. Nye has been active in a number of various business, civic, and educational organizations, including serving as a member of the Board of Directors for the National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association (NSSGA), the American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA) and Romeo Guest Associates, Inc. Mr. Nye has also been a member of the Wake Forest Law School Alumni Council as well as a former Gubernatorial appointee to the North Carolina Mining Commission.
Daniel G. (Dan) Shephard is an Executive Vice President of Martin Marietta Materials. His responsibilities include overseeing the aggregates operations of the Mideast Group and Magnesia Specialties.
Mr. Shephard joined the Company in 1989 as a senior accountant. He later served as accounting director for the Aggregates division and as Vice President - Finance for Magnesia Specialties. He became Vice President and Assistant Treasurer of Martin Marietta Materials in 1996. In 2000 he was elected Treasurer and served in that capacity until 2002. In 1999 he was elected President of Magnesia Specialties and served in that capacity until September 2005.
Mr. Shephard holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Alfred University.
Philip J. (Phil) Sipling is an Executive Vice President of Martin Marietta Materials. His responsibilities include overseeing the aggregates operations of the Southeast Group and the Composites business.
Mr. Sipling joined Martin Marietta Aggregates in 1985 as vice president of marketing. He assumed responsibility for part of the Aggregates operations in 1987, and in 1993 he was given responsibility for the Magnesia Specialties unit and elected senior vice president of the Corporation.
A graduate of Juniata College in Pennsylvania, Mr. Sipling holds master's and doctorate degrees in geological science from Brown University. Mr. Sipling is a member of the board of the Independent College Fund of North Carolina, and previously served on the boards of Industrial Microwave Systems, Inc. and the National Asphalt Pavement Association.
Bruce A. Vaio is President of Martin Marietta Materials - West, headquartered in San Antonio, Texas, and is an Executive Vice President of the Corporation.
Mr. Vaio was President and CEO of Redland Stone Products Company from 1996 to 1998, when Martin Marietta Materials purchased it and formed the Company's Southwest Division. After the Redland Stone purchase, Mr. Vaio served as President of Martin Marietta's Southwest Division from 1999 to 2006, until promoted to his current position. Before joining Redland Stone, he served two years, from 1994 to 1996, as vice president and regional manager of Western Mobile Inc. in Denver, Colorado.
Mr. Vaio holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of Denver and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Phoenix.
Roselyn R. Bar Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary
Roselyn R. Bar is Senior Vice President and General Counsel for Martin Marietta Materials. She is also Corporate Secretary.
Ms. Bar joined the Company in 1994 as assistant general counsel and assistant corporate secretary. Before joining Martin Marietta Materials, she was corporate counsel at Sun America Inc. Prior to working for Sun America, she was a corporate lawyer at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher and Flom in New York and Los Angeles.
Ms. Bar holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Rochester and a law degree from the Brooklyn Law School. She is a member of the New York Bar, the California Bar and the Florida Bar.
Anne H. Lloyd Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer
Anne H. Lloyd is Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer for Martin Marietta Materials. Ms. Lloyd has served as CFO since June 2005 and was elected Treasurer in March 2006.
Ms. Lloyd joined the Company in 1998 as Vice President and Controller. She was promoted to Chief Accounting Officer in 1999. Before joining Martin Marietta Materials, she was with Ernst & Young, LLP, an international public accounting firm.
Ms. Lloyd is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and is a Certified Public Accountant.
Ms. Lloyd is active in various business, education and civic organizations. She currently serves as Treasurer of the Executive Committee and Board Member of the National Stone Sand and Gravel Association (NSSGA). She also serves on the SAFETEA-LU Reauthorization Committee of the NSSGA and the Blue Ribbon Panel of Transportation Experts for the National Surface Transportation Policy and Revenue Study Commission. Ms. Lloyd is a Board Member of the North Carolina Chamber of Commerce and Member of the NC Chamber Infrastructure and Economic Development Policy Committee.
Jonathan T. Stewart Senior Vice President of Human Resources
Jonathan T. (Jon) Stewart is Senior Vice President of Human Resources for Martin Marietta Materials.
Mr. Stewart joined Martin Marietta Corporation in 1982, and became director of personnel for the Aggregates company in 1984. He was named vice president of human resources for the Materials Group in 1992.
Previously, he held increasingly responsible positions in labor and employee relations with International Harvester and Teledyne.
An Ohio native, Mr. Stewart is a graduate of Ohio University.
As Vice President of Operations, Mr. Seamen oversees engineering, capital budget administration, fixed asset management, purchasing, maintenance services and underground mining services. Mr. Seamen joined the Company in 1976 and has held positions of increasing responsibility at operations across the United States. He came to Corporate Headquarters in 1997 to oversee operations services.
Mr. Seamen received a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from NC State University in 1975.
