Biography

Mr. Nye has served as Chair of the Board since 2014, as President of Martin Marietta since 2006, and as Chief Executive Officer and a Director since 2010. He previously served as Chief Operating Officer from 2006 to 2009. Prior to joining Martin Marietta in 2006, he spent nearly 13 years in progressively senior leadership roles with Hanson PLC, including as Executive Vice President of its North American building materials business.

Since 2018, Mr. Nye has been a member of the Board of Directors of General Dynamics Corporation (NYSE: GD), a global aerospace and defense company. In 2019, Forbes magazine recognized Mr. Nye as one of America’s Most Innovative Leaders; he has also been named Aggman of the Year by Aggregates Manager and inducted into the Pit & Quarry Hall of Fame.

Mr. Nye is a past Chairman of the Board of the National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association (NSSGA), the American Road Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA), and the North Carolina Chamber. He also served as co-Chair of the NC Future Investment Resources for Sustainable Transportation Commission (NC FIRST Commission), a bipartisan body tasked with evaluating North Carolina’s transportation investment needs and advising the Secretary of Transportation on strategies to ensure sustainable, long-term funding for the state’s transportation infrastructure. Mr. Nye is also a member of the Board of Directors of the United States Chamber of Commerce, the world’s largest business organization. His additional civic and philanthropic activities include membership on the boards of UNC Health System and the Research Triangle Foundation, as well as the Board of Governors of RTI International.

Mr. Nye received a bachelor’s degree from Duke University and a law degree from Wake Forest University.
